How to compress a PDF

Quality and results

Compression can reduce embedded images, simplify internal data, and optimize how content is stored. The result depends on the document: image-heavy scans behave differently from text-based PDFs or files that are already optimized. Review important pages after downloading, especially small text, charts, photographs, and print-sensitive graphics. There is no fixed reduction percentage because every PDF contains a different mix of content and settings.

Privacy and security

Uploaded documents are handled as temporary files for the compression task. You do not need to create an account or provide profile details. Avoid uploading material you are not permitted to process, and review your organization’s rules before handling confidential or regulated documents.

Limitations

The maximum accepted file size is 25 MB. Compression may produce a substantial reduction, a small change, or no useful reduction. A specific final size is not guaranteed. If the compressed version would be larger, the tool automatically returns the original. Password protection, unusual fonts, forms, signatures, or specialized PDF features may also affect the result.
